PITT, James W. - of Chesaning, died Friday, January 8, 2021 at Hospice House of Shiawassee County. He was 84 years of age.
Jim was born August 26, 1936 in Coleman, MI to the late William and Mary (Kulhanek) Pitt. He was a resident of Chesaning most of his life. Jim was a 1954 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Merrill. He was united in marriage to Marie Witer on February 6, 1960. She preceded him in death on September 27, 2005. Mr. Pitt retired from Saginaw Steering Gear in 1995 with 32 years seniority. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus St. Christopher Council #2943, Chesaning High School Band Boosters and had served as its President, UAW Local #699 and volunteered for the Showboat. He enjoyed dancing to polka music, cheering on the Detroit Lions and Tigers, wintering in Texas, camping and fishing.
Surviving are: children: Kathy (Mike) Ganich of Livonia, Marleen Jeffery of Spring Lake, Bernie Pitt (fiancé Diane Visser) of Grand Rapids, Mary Jo (Fred) Stasser of Livonia; 8 grandchildren; Kayla, Mary, Joycelyn, Jordan, Tess, Lucas, Fred Paul, Hunter; 2 great grandchildren; Charleigh, Beau; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Pitt of Grand Rapids, Margaret Pitt of Hemlock, Mac Witer of OH and Kathleen (Ed) Wejsa of Essexville; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his 2 brothers, George and John; and brother-in-law, John Witer.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Chesaning. Burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 1-7 P.M. at the Misiuk Funeral Home where the Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary at 7 P.M. Visitation on Tuesday will be held at the church from 10 A.M. until time of Mass at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to St Peter's Church, Special Olympics, ALS of Michigan or Epilepsy Foundation of MI.
Following Covid-19 guidelines, masks must be worn, and social distancing practiced at the funeral home and at the church. Currently funeral homes are limited to 25 people.
