Franklin D. Bates Jr. of Chesaning, age 73, a loving Husband and Father, passed away Wednesday September 7, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw. He was born to the late F.D. Bates and Irene (Griffus) Bates on September 17, 1942 of Saginaw. He married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Walser on June 2, 1962. He was a retired Journeyman Tradesman for Johnson Controls Battery Plant in Owosso.
Frank is survived by his wife, Gloria; his four children, Kim (Ward) Adams, Tammy (Jeff) Hafner, Ryan (Debbie) Bates, and Mary Jo (Doug) Emmendorfer; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and two sisters and four brothers, Judy Wilson, Dean (Shirley) Bates, Cheryl (Larry) Sutter, Randy Bates, Roger Bates, Kevin (Sheila) Bates. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and three siblings, Maurice Bates, Jill Bates and Dawn Burt.
He cherished his two loving dogs, Corky and Daisy and enjoyed the rides he took around town in his Coleman side by side.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016, at St. Peter Parish Catholic Church, 404 South Wood Street, Chesaning. Fr. William Gruden will officiate. Frank’s family will be present at the church to welcome friends from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until time of the Mass.
Charitable donations given in memory of Frank may be made to the St. Peter Parish Catholic Church or Chesaning CAER Center or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
