Age 92 of Chesaning passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019 at Chesaning Comfort Care.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at St. Peter Catholic Church with Father William Gruden officiating. The family will receive friends at McGeehan Funeral Homes Martin Chapel on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00pm with a Prayer service at 7:00pm followed by a Rosary.
Charles was born on December 27, 1926 to David T. and Clara K. (White) Kenney in Alpha, Michigan. In his younger years, he worked for the family sawmill and bar in the UP and in the iron mines. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Charles married Shirley Swank on May 14, 1960. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before she predeceased him in 2012.
Churck graduated with his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University. He worked as a Detective in Lansing and for the State Lottery Bureau. He served as Lieutenant for the Michigan State Police for 26 years and retired as Post Commander in Lakeview, MI. Charles loved performing magic shows for the youth through the State Police.
Charles was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Peter's Parish. He also taught religious education at St. Mary's. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He will be dearly missed.
Charles is survived by his children, Ann (Max) Corning, Joan (George) Wilder, Jean (Andy) Sands, Mark (Marie) Kenney, and Jack (Shelly) Kenney; his 10 grandchildren, Mary Ellen Kenney, Mark Kenney, Catalina Kenney, Correy Sands, Cassandra (Brent) Jones, Christopher Sands, Liss (Dave) Stewart, Jessica (Phil) Parsons, David Corning, and Hannah (Mark) Renshaw; his 2 great-grandchildren, Hailey and Autumn Jones; and his sisters, Jean Kenney and Joan Veesaer.
He is predeceased by his wife, Shirley Kenney; his brothers, David Kenney and Michael (Mary) Kenney; his sister, Kathleen (Gus) Peterson; and his brothers-in-law, Don and Bill.
