Alice Katherine (Dowd) Lanczynski was called home by her Lord on Thursday, July 13, 2023. She passed from natural causes at the age of 97 surrounded by her children.
She was born on March 8, 1926, to Mable (Jackson) and Michael C. Dowd of Chesaning, Michigan. She was the valedictorian of the 1943 graduating class of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School at the age of 17. She worked at the Jackson, Church & Wilcox Plant in 1944 helping build munitions for WWII. After the war, Alice married Stanley Lanczynski on May 20, 1946. They had eight beautiful children. Her Catholic faith and her family have been the center of her life. She was an avid gardener, seamstress, and crafter with unique and creative artistic abilities. If you visited her, you might find her praying the Rosary, working on a crossword puzzle, crocheting afghans, piecing together a bright colored quilt, watching Perry Mason or mass on EWTN. Alice’s house was always filled with faith, family and love and will be remember for the beautiful creations made by her, with love.
Alice is the last of five siblings to pass; preceded in death by her parents Mable (Jackson) and Michael Dowd, siblings; Marie (Jeff) Whitright, Margaret (Marshall) Brashier, and Frances Lanczynski, and Joe (Emma) Dowd, grandsons, Matthew Alan Lanczynski and Tommy Holcomb, son-in-law, Doug Gross, oldest daughter, Dianne Kay Martinus, and daughter-in-law Barb Lanczynski. She is survived by her children; Alan (Rosetta) Lanczynski, Raymond (Ann) Lanczynski, Marcia (Paul) Groomes, Beverly (Randy) Auiler, Paul Lanczynski, Joan Gross, and Irene (Tom) Foulds, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Alice was blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren. Her granddaughter, Alysha Miller helped care and provide for her every need, without fail. Near the end Alice had two amazing friends that helped care for her; Tina Szappen and Helen Czeiszperger.
The family will receive friends at McGeehan Funeral Homes Martin Chapel on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 2:00pm till 8:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 11:00a.m. Visitation will take place one hour before mass. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
