Theresa “Terri” Ann Bailey, a longtime resident of St. Charles, died peacefully on March 10, 2023 at Chesaning Comfort Care. She was 83 years old.
Theresa was born on October 24, 1939, the fifth of seven children born to Peter and Lucille (Maikrzek) Stomach, and grew up on the family farm in Minden City, Michigan. She graduated from Ubly High School, earned her bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and her Master’s degree from Saginaw Valley. It was at CMU that she met Guy G. Bailey, and they married on November 18, 1961. The young couple moved to St. Charles in 1970 and raised their three children. For over thirty years, Theresa taught kindergarten through third grade at Miller Elementary in St. Charles until her retirement in 2000. Theresa’s kind, patient and supportive nature suited her well to her work in the elementary school. She was the most loving and caring mother and grandmother, and was active and involved in all of their activities. She cherished time spent with her family and was overjoyed to share her passion for books with her grandchildren by reading to them and taking them to library programs. She enjoyed flowers, was a master gardener, and participated in the St. Charles Greenhouse Committee. In addition to reading, Theresa liked to solve sudoku puzzles and volunteer her time at Covenant and the museum. She traveled internationally with travel groups and friends, and explored most of Europe, and also visited Morocco and Central America. She was quiet and witty, with a contagious laugh and will be deeply missed by many.
She is survived by her sons, Timothy Bailey and Dan (Laura) Bailey; her daughter, Deborah (Scott) Bailey; grandchildren, Jenna and Taylor, Grayson and Ava; sister, Lucille Daykin; sister-in-law, Theresa Stomack, as well as extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Bailey in 1984; her parents, Peter and Lucille Stomach; and five siblings, Clarence, Joanne, Alice, Peter and Marie. Theresa’s family would like to thank the staff of Chesaning Comfort Care and Gentiva Hospice for their love and kindnesses these last weeks.
