Virginia Katherine Lawton
Of Chesaning, MI
A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, and aunt, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Oliver Woods Retirement Home of Owosso, MI, at age 88. The daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Martin) Eickholt, Virginia was born July 30, 1928, in Maple Grove, MI. She married the late Robert C. Lawton, her loving husband of 67 years, on June 19, 1948.
Virginia was very active in the Church, teaching CSA to second graders for eight years and CCD at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (now St. Peter Parish) of Chesaning. She was a longtime member of the Altar Society, a befriender, member of The League of Catholic Women of Saginaw, a volunteer at Owosso Memorial Hospital, and enjoyed visiting shut-ins at the Rest Home. She was a fabulous cook and baker and helped as long as she could to serve up Showboat dinners at the parish hall.
Virginia is survived by four daughters and one son, Mary Myers of Traverse City, MI, Michael and Ann Wright of Atlanta, GA, Janice Lawton of East Lansing, MI, Paul and Sharon Minetti of Linesville, PA, and Patrick and Brenda Lawton of Chesaning, MI. She was grandmother to six and great-grandmother to three. She is also survived by her loving little dog, Benji. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and eldest son, Robert, both passing away in 2015.

Virginia has been cremated. Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at St. Peter Parish Catholic Church, 404 S. Wood Street, Chesaning. Fr. Jim Carlson will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at the Great Lakes National Cemetery at Holly, MI. Virginia’s family will be present at the church to welcome friends from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until time of the Mass.
Charitable donations can be made in memory of Virginia to Heart to Heart Hospice or any Humane Society.
