SHAPLEY, Victor E. – of Chesaning, died Tuesday evening, August 20, 2019, at his home. He was 98 years of age.
 
Victor was born February 7, 1921 in upstate New York to the late Fred and Ann. He resided in New York, Petoskey, Bay City and then Chesaning since the late 1950’s. He was united in marriage to Louise Glaser on February 7, 1942 in Petoskey. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2001. Vic served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Mr. Shapley owned and operated the Central Telephone Company that served Chesaning, Brant, New Lothrop, Mecosta, Chippewa Lake, Orleans and Sunfield. He also owned Island Telephone Company that served Beaver Island and Bois Blanc Island. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Parish. He was an active Rotarian with 63 years perfect attendance and was Past President. Vic was active during the Chesaning Showboat years, donated the town clock, the corner park and was known to be a workaholic.   
 
He is survived by: son Kenneth V. (Louann) Shapley of Saginaw; daughter-in-law Sharan (Michael) Vozar of Swartz Creek; grandchildren: Vickie (Peter) Tuttle of WA, Jackie (Jeff) Gute of Chesaning, Kenneth D. Shapley of Chesaning, Matt Shapley of TX, Amanda (John) Redic of NC, Andrea (Andrew) McConnachie of Deckerville, Kevin Shapley of Saginaw and Sarah Shapley of Saginaw; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; half-sister, Laura; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by several half-brothers and half-sisters and a great-granddaughter.
 
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2019, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Chesaning, Fr. William Gruden to celebrate. Visitation will be at Misiuk Funeral Home in Chesaning from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday with a parish rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at St. Peter Church from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m.  Military honors will be conducted immediately after the Mass. Private interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to Rotary or the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
