Thomas Lawrence McCulloch of Chesaning, age 77, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 13, 2018. Born in Detroit on January 7, 1941, Tom graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School and he received his B.A. and M.A. in History from Northern Michigan University. Tom taught history and government in the Detroit area early in his career and later at New Lothrop High School until his retirement in 2003. He celebrated 50 years of marriage to Joan (Mahoney) McCulloch in 2017. A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, Tom enjoyed summer family camping trips, woodworking and shipbuilding, and Tigers baseball, and was never without a book to read.
In addition to Joan, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Ann Marie McCulloch, Daniel (Jenny) McCulloch, and Elizabeth (Daniel) Birchmeier; grandchildren, Luke and Ethan Birchmeier and Will and Maggie Goudie; sisters, Mary (Jim) Joseph and Barbara McCulloch; brothers, Donald McCulloch, Edward (Cathy) McCulloch, Kevin (Anna) McCulloch, Leonard McCulloch, and Mark (Betty) McCulloch; and brother-in-law, Patrick Allsteadt; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Anna Mae (Murphy) McCulloch; son-in-law, Douglas Goudie; sister, Kathy Allsteadt; and sister-in-law, Linda McCulloch.
Visitation will take place Thursday, August 16, from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Misiuk Funeral Home, 202 South Front Street, Chesaning, with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. His family will be present at the church Friday, August 17 to greet relatives and friends from 11:00 a.m. until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon at St. Peter Parish, 404 South Wood Street, Chesaning. Committal services will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in St. Charles.
