Passed away Saturday morning, August 26, 2017, at Medilodge of Montrose. Age 81. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at St. Peter Parish Catholic Church, at 404 S. Wood Street, Chesaning. Rev. Fr. William Gruden will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:30 pm Tuesday August 29, 2017, at the Misiuk Funeral Home of Chesaning. On Tuesday evening at the funeral home there will be a scripture service at 7:00 pm and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8:00 p.m., then immediately followed by a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Chalice and Paten Memorial Service. His family will be present at the church to greet friends from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of the Mass.
Roger, born in Chesaning on April 21, 1936, was the son of George and Louise Nietling. Roger graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 1954 and married the love of his life, Angeline Willing, on May 5, 1956. He worked at Farmer Peet Meat Packing, George Nietling Construction and later started Chesaning Pools in 1964. He was on the Building Committee for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Roger and his father, George, built the new Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish Rectory. He was on the school board for Our Perpetual Help. Roger was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, served on four different committees for the Knights of Columbus, and volunteered at their fish fries. He served on the advisory committee for Christopher Credit Union for many years. Roger was an usher at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish (now St. Peter Parish) all of his adult life. He was a contractor and a member of the Shiawassee Home Builders Association for many years. He was an avid hunter, bowler and enjoyed traveling. Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a man with profound Christian faith.
Mr. Nietling is survived by his wife, Angeline; his daughters, Mary Easley (Greg) and Teresa Osika (Andy); his sons, Thomas (Kellie), Ronald (MaryJo) and Randall (Amy); his ten grandchildren and his three great-grandchildren; and other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George; mother, Louise; and his sister, Jeanette Nietling. He will be remembered for his gentleness, honesty, loving heart, sense of humor, strength and integrity. He was a true and faithful friend to all who knew him.
Charitable donations can be made in memory of Roger to the Knights of Columbus, St. Peter Parish, or Rescue Mission of Saginaw.
