Peter went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Covenant Healthcare, Saginaw surrounded by his loving family at the age of 89.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Peter Parish in Chesaning. Fr. William Gruden will officiate. Family will receive friends at the Nelson-House Funeral Home-Martin Chapel on Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 pm and at church on Saturday after 9:00 am until the time of service. Scripture service will be held on Friday at 7:00 pm.
Peter was born on February 27, 1926 in Saginaw to the late Peter and Louise (Bannan) Young. He married Alberta Birchmeier on June 26, 1948 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Chesaning and they remained happily together for 67 years. He was a member of St Peter Parish in Chesaning. He served his country during WWII in the US Army in the 603rd Medium Tank Company. Peter was a DHIA milk tester, dairy farmer, carpenter, and construction worker. Peter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed bowling, gardening, woodworking and card games. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Surviving are his wife Alberta; children Delores (Kenneth) Sheldon, Helen Bowen, James (Carol) Young, and Elaine (David) Bainbridge; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings Ann Howard, Richard (Maryann) Young, and Jean (Stephen) Pollick; and sister-in-law Bonnie Young.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosemary Starland and husband Frank Starland, brother Dr. Robert Young, two infant sisters, and son-in-law Pharen Bowen.
