Age 85 of Chesaning passed away Monday, May 4, 2015.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 10:30am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father Bill Gruden officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00pm at Nelson-House Funeral Homes Martin Chapel, with a Rosary prayed at 7:00pm, and Thursday morning at the church from 9:30 until time of service.
Kathleen was born on August 12, 1929 to Phillip and Irene (Drexler) Eickholt in Maple Grove Township. On September 6, 1952, she married George R. Spodney; he predeceased her in 1998 after 46 years of marriage. Kathleen worked in banking for many years. She helped countless individuals and businesses in the community before retiring as the Bank President.
Aside from her work, Kathleen served as President of the Rotary Club and honorary member, a member of Kiwanis, the Showboat Committee, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies’ Auxiliary in Owosso, and Chesaning Parks and Recreation. She also served as Director of the Twin Brooks Golf Course, volunteered with the Saginaw County Fair, and was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Parish, formerly Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Kathleen was an avid golfer and cat lover. She was also known as the peanut brittle lady, giving hundreds of packages of her homemade goodies away during the holidays.
Kathleen is survived by her family members, nephew Tom Montgomery, his wife Colleen, their children Matthew, Jessica, Claudia, and Karla, as well as special friend Loraine Schirle.
She is predeceased by her husband, her parents, her sister Beatrice, and her nephew Rob.
