Age 57, formerly of Chesaning and Saginaw, died on November 28, 2021 at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Chesaning. The family will receive friends at McGeehan Funeral Homes Martin Chapel on Friday, December 3rd from 6:00 to 9:00pm with a vigil service at 7:30pm, and at 9:00am Saturday at St. Peter prior to the funeral mass.
David was born on October 9, 1964 to John and Joyce (Boyd) Horny in Saginaw, MI. He graduated from Chesaning High School in 1982 and was a proud alumnus of Michigan State University. David worked as a science teacher for 25 years for Saginaw Nouvel, Byron, and Ithaca Public Schools. He also served as the youth minister at Our Lady Church and was a lector at St. John Student Parish in E. Lansing for many years.
David was an avid fan of all things baseball. He worked as a groundskeeper for the Great Lake Loons, Lansing Lugnuts, and Battle Creek Battle Cats, coached baseball at Nouvel Catholic High School, Byron and Ithaca, and coached at Mickey Owen Baseball School and various summer camps. Dave was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, and he loved traveling to minor league ballparks with his friends and family, and collecting bobbleheads and other baseball memorabilia and autographs. He shared an equal love of the Michigan State Spartans and was a season ticket holder for both football and basketball, and attended many other Spartan athletic events every year with friends and family.
David is survived by his father, John (Sharon) Horny; his siblings, John Jr. (Shel) Horning; Steve Horny, Mark (Kathy) Horn, Paul (Anita) Horny, Tom (Norma) Horny, Mary Bai, Judy (Roger) Thompson, Amy Kain, Jeff Shier, Randy Shier, and Julie Mielke, and many special nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his mother Joyce, his sister Janet Horny, and his nephew, Paul Horny Jr.
