Robert D. “Bob” Roy of Chesaning passed away Sunday afternoon, October 22, 2017, age 76, at the Oliver Woods Retirement Village of Owosso. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2017, at St. Peter Parish Catholic Church, 404 S. Wood Street, Chesaning, with Rev. Fr. William Gruden officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday at the Misiuk Funeral Home of Chesaning from 2:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus Rosary Service to be held at 8:00 p.m. Bob’s family will be present at the church to greet friends from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until time of the Mass.
Robert was born in Owosso on October 20, 1941, the son of Del and Helen K. (Fedewa) Roy. Bob graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School in the Class of 1960. He served as his graduating Class President and played on the basketball team. He married the former Barbara J. Bates.
Bob was a barber and owned and operated Roy’s Barber Shop in Chesaning before his retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Kiwanis Clubs in both Chesaning and Houghton Lake. He volunteered as a member of the Showboat boat crew. Bob was a former baseball coach for the Chesaning Parks and Recreation. He enjoyed golf and bowling and he loved to coach sports, play sports, and watch sports.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Barbara; their children, Robert Roy and Lindsey of Grand Rapids, Michelle and husband John DiDio, Jeff and wife Dottie Roy of Chesaning, Kathy and husband Ken Maunder of Goodrich, and Michael Roy of Houghton Lake; their beloved grandchildren, Dan, Ashely, Blake, Samantha, Molly, Carmen, Emma, Reilly, Jeremy, and Hayden; their adored great-grandchildren, Madalynn and Samuel; his sister, Diane Russell; his brothers, Rick and wife Marcia Roy and Greg and wife Debbie Roy; many nieces and nephews; and other loving family and many friends. Those who have passed before him include his parents; a sister, Yvonne Tuller; and a brother, Chuck Roy.
