Obituary for Alvin Leo Hemgesberg

Age 81 of Chesaning passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at St. Mary's of Michigan.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:30pm on Friday, May 17, 2019 at St. Peter Catholic Church with Father Bill Gruden officiating. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Homes Martin Chapel on Thursday, May 16 from 12:00 to 8:00pm.

Alvin was born on August 4, 1937 to Leo and Carmelita (Gross) Hemgesberg in Shiawassee County. He married Arlene Gorecki on September 3, 1960 at St. Michael's of Maple Grove; they celebrated 58 years of marriage last year. Al worked as welder for General Motors for 35 years.

During his life, Al was a member of the Knights of Columbus and he was involved in the Mid-Michigan Old Gas Tractor Association. He was a big MSU fan. Most of all, Al loved being with his family, going up north to their cabin, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Al is survived by his wife, Arlene Hemgesberg; his daughter, Toni (David) Harris; his granddaughters, Nicole (Chris) Holt and Jessica Harris; his great-grandchildren, Jayden and Kayne; his siblings, Pete, Sally, William, Mike, Dan, Jim, and Pat; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his great-granddaughter, Arianna Harris; his parents; and his sisters, Betty and Mary.
